OpenShift Origin is working on Service-level

I know that one application exists out of multiple services (most of the times)

One or mutiple pods with the DB, with above it a service (to communicate with the back-end)

One or multiple pods with the front-end, with above it a service (with a route, this is what users may see)

One or multiple pods with the back-end, with above it a service (to communicate with the front-end and DB)

Those services and pods are in one namespace (project).
So is this what they mean with the fact that OpenShift (kubernetes) is working on service-level?
So front-end is also a service? The components which make up an application are services?
